Ron Paul – How to Lower Gas Prices

Americans have been suffering at the gas pump for far too long.  Unlike some issues – gas prices directly are affect all of us and high gas prices SUCK big time!  As most of you know, the price of oil correlates closely with the price of gas.  When oil prices increase – gas prices increase and vice versa.  Like most Americans – Ron Paul wants to see lower gas prices.  However, most Americans don’t have a viable plan to reduce gas prices – Ron Paul does.

Dr Paul asserts that the high gas prices we see today are the result of three things – drawing from What Congress Can Do About Higher Gas Prices:

1) Before the Iraq War, oil prices were around $30 per barrel.  Today, the price of oil is more than double that amount.  Obviously, the Iraq war has increased oil and gas prices.

2) The war drums being beaten toward Iran are causing higher oil prices.  The sooner those drums stop – the quicker oil prices will fall.

3) Lastly, Dr. Paul asserts that inflation has worked to push gas prices higher.

In the same article, Ron Paul offers a three part plan to lower oil and gas prices.  Dr. Paul believes that ending the Iraq War and allowing the Iraqis to solve their own internal problems will help with their oil production problems.  He points out that since the Iraq War began – oil production in Iraq has been reduced 50%.

1) Dr. Paul believes that ending the Iraq War and allowing the Iraqis to solve their own internal problems will help with their oil production problems.  He points out that since the Iraq War began – oil production in Iraq has been reduced 50%.

2) The war drums beating in the direction of Iran must end and a peaceful resolution aggressively sought.  Ron Paul notes that there’s no evidence Iran has a nuclear bomb – so there’s no need for the war drums.  The sooner this aggressive foreign policy ends, the sooner oil (gas) prices will fall.

3) Lastly, Dr. Paul is intensely concerned with the economic impact on gas prices.  To alleviate the increase in gas prices caused by inflation and federal deficits – Ron Paul would like to see an end to Federal Gas taxes, an end to Congressional deficit spending, an end to regulations preventing development of alternative fuels and an end to energy company subsidies. He would also like to see Congress balance the budget.   All resulting in lower oil (gas) prices.

According to Dr. Paul, the implementation of this plan could lower oil prices to as little as $20 per barrel.  Resulting in gas prices lower than those seen before the Iraq War began.

  1. Or, we could all drive less. If we cut the amount of cars on the road everyday in half, then gas prices would be cut in half. Supply and Demand. Check out www.AtoBme.com for Carpools and Hitch-A-Rides in the United States. Save money. Make friends. Do the environment a solid. GET AROUND.

  2. I love point number 1) “Before the Iraq War, oil prices were around $30 per barrel. Today, the price of oil is more than double that amount. Obviously, the Iraq war has increased oil and gas prices.”

using this same logic, I can then say: 1) Before I was married, gas prices were $1.27/gallon. Since I got married, the price has almost tripled. Obviously my marriage has increased oil and gas prices.

Stop with this nonsense that the War in Iraq has caused the sharp increase in the gas prices. You also need to remember that it’s doubled since the Democrats took over in ‘06–something that’s never in any of the “proof” in any political screeds that President’s policies are responsible for the massive increase.

  3. The best way to lower oil prices is to as follows:

    1. Increase the strategic oil reserve by at least 3 times as what it is today. Every month or so, dump these reserves by 70% onto the open market. Keep this is up until we break the monster’s back.
    2. Require all cars sold in the USA to reach by 2012, a fuel mileage of 32 mpg city and 40 mpg highway. ALso, all new cars sold after this date must be able to run on the 85/15 flex fuel.
    3. Have major tax breaks for farmers to produce enough crops to meet this demand.
    4. Make it illegal for any crop used as flx fuel to be on the open market as a futures commodity. Cap prices to the point where farmers can make a reasonable but not a windfall profit.
    5. Become a nation that quits worrying about the rest of the world and become a nation that puts 99% of all of its wealth and resources back into our country and drastically restrict any foreign aid.

I used to be a devout conservative, but 12 years of the Bush’s, I have come to realize that what Clinton did actually worked except for his personal behavior.

  4. Gas prices went up not because we went to war, but our enemies decided to bring it to us.

  5. I think we went to the wrong war, but as long as were there, we need to stay committed to our rhetoric and follow up instead of stopping halfway. We should have either never gone over, or we should have gone in, kicked a$s, and installed a puppet government that answers to Washington, with huge subsidies for the Iraqi military in return for cheap oil. Iran is funding terrorism all over the world. If our government believes all the crap they spew, they should just go in and take over Iran as well.
Either way, how do you justify the whole thing to someone who has lost a family member?
