Great, I just installed michelles plugin. I'm pretty new to the blogosphere and right away this "nofollow"-thing kinda bugged me. So thanks - I'm happy to say that my blog is now nofollow-free! :)
To Caroline Middlebrook: There should be no problem as long as you use askimet and moderate your comments for anything you find spammy still.

If a close friend of yours excitedly talking about a product, none of the marketing campaigns in this world can compete with the that.

In my humble opinion, there is no better advertising than word of mouth. People tend to believe others who are obviously happy with their choice of products. On the opposite side, a poor word of mouth campaign, against a product is even more effective. This is why most smart companies hire a good PR firm. To avoid the bad-mouthing that may occur.

I agree. If people aren't getting excited enough about your product to tell someone else/friends chances are its not word of mouth marketing.

You get shocked? Yup, everyone gets shocked for the current status. The economy get bad and everybody is falling in difficult. Thing you predicted happens. Though crude oil price is down, this can't help for the crisis economy.

I am amazed no one has commented on this post yet! You're dead on. I'd also like to point out that during the 2008 election, the main criticism against drilling was that it would take "10 years before we would see any benefit." Since oil has plunged over the past 3-4 months, drilling is not even a consideration. What will the excuse be in 10 years when we face another energy crisis and no one bothered taking any long term action?

Let's face it... the government (politicians) don't want to solve problems -they want to be seen as the solution to our problems but perpetuate the problems. If they solved those problems, we wouldn't "need" them...

Word of mouth to me was the first marketing strategy. It's a natural way to promote a product that conveys trust and transparency. As more and more people get online we'll see word of mouth marketing disappear to offline ads.
